Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved deploying the military and civilian attorneys from the Department of Defense to the Justice Department.

The first group of 150 lawyers is expected to be identified by next week, with deployments starting soon after.
These temporary judges will serve for up to 179 days, with the possibility of renewal, to tackle the estimated 8.1 million cases in the immigration court backlog as of fiscal year 2024.
The use of military lawyers is part of a strategy to streamline deportations, focusing on illegal migrants, especially those with criminal records and final deportation orders.

Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner announced that the Trump administration ordered a nationwide review of public housing in an attempt to root out illegal immigrants.

The Trump administration notified every public housing authority (PHA) across the country that it will be given 30 days to share the citizenship status of its tenants or potentially face the loss of federal funding.

Every PHA is required to provide HUD with eligibility information, such as citizenship status. However, two anonymous senior HUD officials speaking with the Washington Examiner claimed that a “significant” number have opted to withhold the information from the federal government, or never collected it in the first place.

HUD Secretary Scott Turner announced that he will be demanding proof of citizenship for all section 8 tenants.
"No longer will illegal aliens be able to leave citizenship boxes blank or take advantage of HUD-funded housing, riding the coattails of hardworking American citizens."
The nationwide initiative is to make sure that Section 8 housing and other HUD-funded programs are only being used by U.S. citizens, reinforces President Trump’s Executive Order 14218, “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders,” signed back in February.
This directive requires all Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) to conduct a 30-day audit of residents’ legal status to verify citizenship or eligible immigration status.
The policy includes:
Requirement that PHAs provide detailed tenant information, including names, addresses, unit sizes, costs, and proof of citizenship or eligible immigration status.
Non-compliant PHAs risk losing federal funding or facing program eligibility reviews.

Turner said the Biden administration “turned a blind eye” to illegal migrants accessing benefits.
Supporters, including Sen. Bernie Moreno, back the move, asserting that illegal migrants should not receive publicly funded housing.
