Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reportedly ordered the city's entire fleet of salt trucks into action to create a mobile roadblock aimed at obstructing ICE operations.
This comes as the Trump administration ramps up immigration enforcement in the Windy City, with as many as 300 federal agents staging from Naval Station Great Lakes for daily raids expected to start over the weekend.

The tactic, described by sources as a deliberate slowdown to "melt the ICE" – is being condemned by conservative leaders who view it as another example of sanctuary city policies prioritizing illegal migrants over law-abiding citizens and the rule of law.

"This isn't clever; it's chaos," said one Republican state lawmaker, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "Using taxpayer-funded equipment to obstruct federal officers enforcing our borders is not just irresponsible – it's potentially illegal and endangers public safety."
The mayor allegedly directed every available salt truck under the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation to form a convoy.
These vehicles, typically used for winter road maintenance, were positioned to block key access routes, effectively creating a rolling barrier to stop ICE vehicles from entering the city.
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), under Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker's administration mobilized state plows and salt trucks as early as this morning.

Thousands of protesters flooded the streets of the nation's capital railing against President Donald Trump federalizing DC to crack down on crime rates, illegal migrants, homeless camps and restore order.
Dubbed the "We Are All D.C." march, the protesters chanted "Free DC!" and "Trump must go now!" as they marched near the White House.

Trump's administration stepped in last month with a targeted crackdown – deploying National Guard troops and federal agents.
Since then, violent crime has plummeted 26% with homicides down 12% and carjackings dropping 87% in the first 20 days of the takeover alone.
