Proverbs 15: 1
The Proverbs, chapter 15, verse 1, says: "A soft answer drives away anger, but a harsh word provokes anger." This passage is similar in meaning to a current expression of today: "appease them with kindness." Christians are instructed to deal with antagonism in a way that demonstrates empathy, forgiveness, and goodwill. It also makes clear the idea that attack invites counterattack, offense fosters offense, and resentment encourages evil. This teaches the reader to reflect on his response to criticism, maintaining God's will above all in all relationships.
